History
Moscow Cup Open is the most famous international tablehockey event in Russia. It was founded on August 25 2001.
Moscow Cup 2001
The First Cup took place inside the Goskomstat building. About 50 leading players from Russia and Latvia attended.
The First Cup winner was Raivis Sternats (Latvia). He got his guilded cup and a special prize from Bavaria Brewery. Alexander Khavanov, NHL's star player from Saint-Louis Blues, khanded the prize. Tow other Latvian citizens Sergei Mikheev and Yanis Kirsis, were got the second and the third prizes. The best of Russians (RTHF's president Mikhail Margolis) landed a not very distant fourth.
All participants got their exclusive Cup tea-shirts. The Staryi Melnik Brewery (subsidiary of Efes Pilsener) presented its products.
Moscow Cup Open is organized under the auspices of RTHF, Moscow Tablehockey League (MTHF) with the support of Moscow Committe on Sports and Physical Culture (Moscomsport).
The Cup was covered by TV, including federal NTV and TVTs channels.
Moscow Cup 2002
The 2nd Moscow Cup took place April 2002 in the sport club “Club Health” – the main base of the RTHF where the Russian championship holds. Sportmaster — the biggest in Russia and CIS network of sport supermarkets — became the tournament’s sponsor.
About 60 best players from Russia, Ukraine, Latvia and Finland participated in the tournament. The main prize — Crystal Cup, diploma and stereo system - won famous Finnish player Jani Lappalainen. In the final he outplayed previous winner Raivis Sternats (Latvia). The third was Sergey Mikheev (Latvia) gained Aki Teivainen (Finland). Prizes were given by the president of the RTHF Mikhail Margolis and Russian rock-star, leader of the group “Krematory” Armen Grigorian.
Company “Staryi melnik” granted free beer for all guests again. TV channels and press showed big interest to the tournament.
